Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Fast-Track Trade Authority
June 12, 2015
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after votes in the U.S. House of Representatives today on Fast-Track Trade Promotion Authority (TPA):
“Today the House voted to put the brakes on another bad trade deal that would hurt American businesses and jeopardize American jobs. While the fight is far from over, today’s vote clearly shows that this trade package in its current form is flawed and not in the best interest of American workers.
“We live in a global economy, and I support increased trade around the world. Like everyone, I want to increase U.S. manufacturing exports and promote American business. But we need fair trade – not more so-called ‘free trade’ that in the past has resulted in countless jobs being shipped overseas. Furthermore, Congress should not give up its constitutional authority to amend future trade agreements.
“Fast-track is the wrong track for America, and I will continue to stand strong with hardworking families in opposition to trade policies that force our country’s workers to compete on an uneven playing field.”
