Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on GOP Bill to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

March 6, 2017

FLINT – Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) released the following statement today after Republicans unveiled their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act:

“Over the coming days, I will read the bill in its entirety. But it’s already clear that the Republican bill repealing the Affordable Care Act puts people’s lives in danger. It kicks millions of Americans off their current health care, puts insurance companies back in charge of health plans and rations care for working families and seniors. Repealing the Affordable Care Act is also a job-killer – a recent report highlighted that over 100,000 Michigan jobs could be lost if Republicans go forward with their plan.

“My constituents want affordable and quality health care. Unfortunately, the Republican repeal bill would make families pay more for worse care, especially seniors. The Republican repeal bill also phases out the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, creating more uncertainty for the millions currently covered under the expansion, including over 600,000 people in Michigan.

“No law is perfect, including Obamacare, and I have always maintained that I will work with anyone, Democrat or Republican, to improve the law. But repealing the ACA, kicking millions off their current health care plans, is irresponsible and dangerous.”
