Protecting Our Firefighters From Toxic Chemicals

October 21, 2020

Dear Friend,

Michigan's firefighters put their lives on the line every day. Unfortunately, many firefighters have been exposed to dangerous per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals in both their firefighting gear, as well as firefighting foam. That's why I'm fighting to remove PFAS chemicals from our environment, including from firefighting gear.

On October 13, 2020, I held a roundtable with the Environmental Working Group and Michigan firefighters to highlight bills in Congress to clean up PFAS chemicals and help those exposed.

I've introduced legislation, the Protecting Firefighters from PFAS Act, to ensure firefighters exposed to toxic PFAS chemicals at military installations get the health care services they need. As the founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, I am committed to working with Republicans and Democrats to get this legislation signed into law.
