Rep. Kildee tours USS Edson destroyer with veterans

October 20, 2017

U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Flint Township) visited the USS Edson Destroyer Thursday, October 19.

Veterans Michael Buda, a former Bay City mayor, and Jim Reha, a veteran and school teacher from Saginaw, toured the destroyer with the congressman.

As a part of a recess from congress, Kildee made his way back to Michigan where he is making visits across the state.

The ship closely resembled one that Kildee's father would have manned during the Korean war.

"This is probably where dad would have been" Kildee said as Buda walked him through the room containing the engine.

After the Edson arrived in Bay City in 2012, Jake Bennett, Kildee's deputy district director, and Buda created a video tour of the Edson for Jack Kildee, Rep. Kildee's father. Jack Kildee died in December of 2012 at 85.
