Kildee Annually Nominates High School Seniors for Prestigious Service Academies

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today announced his nominations for the U.S. service academies for the class of 2023. Members of Congress annually nominate students from their district to attend service academies and, if selected, these students will receive a free education and earn a commission in the U.S. military or be selected to serve in the maritime industry.

The U.S. military academies are federal academies for undergraduate education and training of commissioned offers for the U.S Armed Forces, including the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co., the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

"I am proud to announce my nominations for the class of 2023 at our precious military academies. This group of young adults I am nominating represent the best of our country. They have demonstrated their commitment to serve our country and I look forward to following their bright futures," said Congressman Kildee.

The nominees are: Wyatt Smith from Grand Blanc; Sarah Fejedelem from Flint; Alejandra Fulgencio from Saginaw; Carter Johnson from Flushing; Jacob Fagerstrom from Clio; Sophia Clements from Fenton; Patrick Perkins from Grand Blanc; Malan Manwaring from Clio; Sarah Cook from Swartz Creek; Brian Case from Davison; Marlando Wade from Flint; and Michael Kramer, who is currently serving on active duty.

Every year, Congressman Kildee nominates highly-qualified Michigan students to attend the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination. The honor of attending a service academy comes with a commitment to serve in the military or maritime service upon graduation.
