Congressman Dan Kildee Announces Over $3.2 Million in Federal Housing Grants throughout Mid-Michigan

February 12, 2015

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today announced over $3.2 million in federal grants being awarded to local-area housing commissions in Genesee, Saginaw, Bay and Iosco counties. The federal grants, issued through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) 2015 Capital Fund, will help to modernize and develop public housing in multiple cities across the Fifth Congressional District. "These federal grants are welcome news to help rebuild, repair and renovate public housing in cities like Flint, Saginaw, Bay City and East Tawas. These funds will help make our neighborhoods stronger and ensure that our communities have quality, affordable housing," Congressman Kildee said. "Many of these housing units are in need of large-scale improvements, including repairing roofs, replacing old plumbing or electrical rewiring. Today's grants will also help these local cities leverage additional private capital to make further investments that will make public housing more sustainable." Federal grants announced today will be issued to the following local housing commissions:

  • Bay City Housing Commission: $768,742
  • Bay County Housing Department: $86,139
  • East Tawas Housing Commission: $34,573
  • Flint Housing Commission: $1,667,181
  • Saginaw Housing Commission: $683,768
