Kildee Congratulates Linden's Quinn Arnold, Celebrates Achievements of Mid-Michigan Student Artists

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Michigan's Fifth District. The winner, Quinn Arnold, is a junior at Linden High School.

A panel of community judges selected Arnold as this year's winner. The Linden High School junior's winning piece is a colored pencil drawing entitled "Primarily." A high-resolution photo of Arnold's artwork can be viewed here.

"I am excited to welcome Quinn to Washington, D.C. to see her artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol. I look forward to walking past Quinn's artwork every day on my way to the U.S. Capitol, which will remind me of the excellent talent and creativity we have in mid-Michigan. I thank all of this year's high school artists for their participation in this year's competition and look forward to following their bright futures," said Congressman Kildee.

As the winner, Arnold's artwork will go on display in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol alongside winners from other congressional districts across the country. Arnold will also have the opportunity to come to Washington, D.C. later this year with other winning student artists for a reception and ribbon cutting hosted by the Congressional Art Caucus and Congressman Kildee.

Hannah Lapham, a junior at Linden High School, had her piece, "Reflecting Grace," selected as runner-up. Jaden Haas, a sophomore at Pinconning High School, came in third place with her piece entitled, "Schizophrenic."

"I am grateful to all the participants, teachers and families for their work this year. I am so impressed with all of the art pieces. The level of talent from high school students in our district is remarkable," Congressman Kildee said.

Six leading local artists have continued the tradition of choosing the competition's winning piece of art. The judges, Michael Garguilo, Phillip Hanson, Nicole Vogelpohl, Felicia Rose-Barry, Myiesha Smith and Greg Fiedler, are educators, artists and community leaders.

The Congressional Art Competition recognizes the artistic talents of high school students from each congressional district around the nation. The annual event is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representative's Congressional Art Caucus.
