Congressman Dan Kildee Appointed to Powerful Ways and Means Committee
Kildee to Serve on Committee Setting Policy on Trade, Health Care and Taxes in Congress
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) has been selected to serve on the prestigious Ways and Means Committee, the oldest and one of the most powerful committees in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I am honored to join the House Ways and Means Committee and I am ready to get to work on policies that help to grow our economy and provide more opportunities for all Americans,” said Congressman Kildee. “We need to have a tax code that grows the middle class, fair trade deals that benefit workers and affordable health care for all Americans. My position on the Ways and Means Committee means Michiganders will have a voice at the table as a new Democratic majority begins our work for the people.”
“Our new members hail from states across the country and bring a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences to our new majority. Their input will strengthen our work in the coming years to improve Americans’ retirement security, lower health care costs, cut taxes for middle-class families, and modernize our nation’s infrastructure. I congratulate these representatives on this honor, and on their expanded opportunity to serve their constituents and improve the lives of all Americans,” said Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Richard Neal.
The House Ways and Means Committee will be at the forefront of the new Democratic majority’s key initiatives, including lowering the costs of health care premiums and prescription drugs, negotiating fair trade deals, and creating a tax system that benefits working families, not the richest corporations. The House Ways and Means Committee has vast jurisdiction over important programs including Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare, enforcement of child support laws, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and foster care and adoption programs.
Congressman Dan Kildee serves as Chief Deputy Whip, part of the Democratic leadership in the 116th Congress. The Chief Deputy Whip acts as an important liaison among Members of Congress and the Democratic leadership team to build support for Democratic priorities.
