Congressman Dan Kildee Highlights New Analysis Showing Trumpcare Kills Nearly 2 Million Jobs
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today highlighted a new analysis that found the Republican health care bill – also known as Trumpcare – would contribute to the loss of 1.8 million jobs nationwide by 2022.
“Under Trumpcare, middle class families will pay more for less care, and 24 million Americans may lose their coverage altogether. Now we know that Trumpcare is also a job-killer, hurting our economy and costing us nearly two million jobs,” said Congressman Kildee. “Trumpcare is reckless and would have devastating consequences for the health of hardworking Michigan families and the health of our economy.”
The new analysis, prepared by the Center for American Progress, points out that Trumpcare would result in less subsidy support for private insurance and for Medicaid, resulting in less employment in subsequent years.
“Michiganders simply cannot afford the higher costs for care and the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs under Trumpcare,” Congressman Kildee continued. “This bad bill kicks millions off their current plans and unfairly taxes seniors, all to pay for huge tax breaks for millionaires and health insurance CEOs. The wealthiest Americans don’t need another enormous tax cut on the backs of working families.”
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, 24 million Americans would lose their health insurance under Trumpcare. Trumpcare also creates an “age tax” on older Americans between 55-64 years of age, meaning more expensive health care and prescription drugs. According to Vox, the average older American would see increased costs of $5,269 immediately, which would rise to $6,971 in 2020. The AARP is opposed to Trumpcare.
