Congressman Dan Kildee Joins Ongoing Sit-In on House Floor to Demand Vote Closing Terror Gun Loophole

June 22, 2016
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) has joined Congressman John Lewis (GA-05) and other Democratic colleagues staging an ongoing sit-in in the well of the U.S. House of Representatives to demand a vote on common legislation to prevent suspected terrorists from buying deadly weapons. “The American people have made it clear that they want Congress to do its job and act to prevent suspected terrorists from getting guns. Congress should not recess until we do our job and act to protect the American people,” Congressman Kildee said. Yesterday, Congressman Kildee spoke on the House floor demanding that the House not recess without allowing for a vote on ‘No Fly No Buy’ legislation to prevent anyone currently on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Terror Watch List from legally purchasing a weapon. The bill, H.R. 1076, introduced by Republican Rep. Peter King (NY-02), has support of Republicans and Democrats in Congress, yet Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (WI-01) has refused to bring it up for an up-or-down vote.
