Congressman Dan Kildee Tours Fullerton Tool in Saginaw, Discusses Ways to Boost American Manufacturing

November 9, 2015
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today toured Fullerton Tool, a growing Saginaw-based manufacturing business, and discussed ways Congress can immediately act to support small business manufacturers and boost American exports. Congressman Kildee was accompanied on the tour by Fullerton Tool President Patrick Curry. “Fullerton Tool is a Michigan manufacturing success story, and it is great to see first-hand their continued growth in our community,” Congressman Kildee said. “Small businesses like Fullerton are powering our economy and creating good-paying jobs. Congress can support small businesses by investing in companies that create jobs here in America, not overseas. We must also make critical investments in workforce training and infrastructure so we can compete in a global economy.” Fullerton Tool is a manufacturer of solid carbide industrial cutting tools that has been based in Saginaw since 1942. Currently, it’s finishing construction on an additional 35,000 square foot facility in mid-Michigan. When completed, the expansion will generate $8 million in private investment and add an additional 58 jobs to the region. “Fullerton Tool Company is encouraged to see the support from our community and Congressman Kildee,” Curry said. “It is refreshing to have someone interested in manufacturing and willing to help us in our efforts to compete in today’s global economy.” Congressman Kildee and Fullerton Tool also met earlier this year about how Congress can support American manufacturing. In July, Fullerton Tool participated in a small business roundtable that Congressman Kildee convened with local businesses to discuss efforts to boosting American manufacturing exports. One of these proposals included reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im), which Congressman Kildee has championed and voted last month to reopen. Ex-Im is a critical tool with historically bipartisan support that helps Michigan businesses secure financing to increase manufacturing exports. Over the last six years, Ex-Im has financed the sale of more than $200 billion in U.S. exports and supports over a million private sector jobs, including 59,693 jobs in Michigan. Congressman Kildee  also recently participated in a series of hearings on the “Make it in America” jobs agenda before Congress, where he has testified about the importance of investing in our nation’s infrastructure and how to expand manufacturing exports from American businesses. Additionally, he is on the President’s Export Council, the principal advisory committee on international trade, where he advocates for trade and manufacturing policies that will support American workers.
