Congressman Kildee Accepting Applications for U.S. Military Service Academy Nominations
High School Seniors Interested in Military Service Academies Must Apply by October 15th
Congressman Dan Kildee is accepting applications from students in mid-Michigan who are seeking a United States Service Academy nomination from his office. If selected, these students will receive a free education and earn a commission in the U.S. military or be selected to serve in the maritime industry. Students who are interested should visit the Congressman’s website to submit their application. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2018.
“Every year, I have the honor of nominating young men and women from mid-Michigan to the United States Military Academies. Service Academies provide an outstanding education to their students while preparing young adults for service as officers in our Armed Forces. I encourage high school seniors who are interested to reach out to my office and apply,” said Congressman Kildee.
Congressman Kildee can nominate highly qualified Michigan students to attend the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination. The honor of attending a Service Academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
The application process is open to all interested high school seniors in Michigan’s 5th Congressional District. Applicants need to submit the following with their application: three letters of recommendation, a high school transcript with ACT or SAT scores, a resume and a one-page essay on why they want to attend. More information and the application are available here and at dankildee.house.gov. Any students with questions should call Congressman Kildee’s office at 810-238-8627.
