Congressman Kildee Announces $1.6 Million Grant for Tawas City

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced a $1.6 million grant to Tawas City and Iosco County to support small businesses and entrepreneurs hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.

The $1,670,000 federal grant, through the U.S. Department of Commerce, is supported by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), a bipartisan emergency aid bill supported by Congressman Kildee and signed into law March 27, 2020. The grant will be used to create a revolving loan fund to lend to small businesses and entrepreneurs in the region.

"Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and it is essential we provide them with the resources they need during the coronavirus pandemic," said Congressman Kildee. "While we have a lot more to do to help small businesses get through this pandemic, I am pleased to announce this grant for Tawas City to provide support to small businesses and entrepreneurs."

Congressman Kildee has been an aggressive advocate for small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to supporting the Paycheck Protection Program and additional relief funds for small businesses, he introduced the RELIEF for Main Street Act, a bipartisan bill to provide additional assistance for very small businesses with fewer than 20 employees, especially minority-owned, rural or tribal businesses. Last month, Kildee announced that 5,400 local small businesses had been helped through PPP loans.
