Federal Grant for Sterling Area Health Center Will Help Support Rural Health Access to Mid-Michigan Residents

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced Sterling Area Health Center will receive a federal grant to help provide quality, affordable health care to families living in rural mid-Michigan.

The $2,155,191 federal grant, through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Health Center Program, will help Sterling Area Health Center provide primary care, dental and behavioral health services to families, particularly those who are medically underserved, as well as veterans. The HHS Health Center Program provides more than 28 million people in over 12,000 community-based health centers across the country with access to comprehensive care and supportive services such as health education, translation and transportation.

"In the richest country in the world, access to quality, affordable health care should be a right, not a privilege," Congressman Kildee said. "By ensuring access to health care to everyone, especially those living in rural communities, we can help build a healthier and stronger Michigan. I am proud to announce this federal grant for Sterling Area Health Center to provide health care services to our district," Congressman Kildee said.

Since coming to Congress, Kildee has championed affordable and quality health care access for all. He has secured over 100 substantial federal grants to help lower health care costs and expand access to care in Genesee, Saginaw and Bay counties. Recently, Kildee has championed expanding health care services for families through local Healthy Start Programs and helped un-insured residents enroll in Genesee Health Plan.
