Congressman Kildee Announces Nearly $6.5 Million in Federal Grants to Mid-Michigan Airports

Funding Supported by Kildee Will Help Local Airports with Economic Impact of Coronavirus
WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced nearly $6.5 million in federal funding to be awarded to five local airports throughout the Fifth Congressional District to help offset the severe economic disruption caused by the coronavirus. This funding can be used by the airports to prevent, prepare for and respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
The $6,456,768 in federal grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Airport Rescue Grants, are available as a part of the American Rescue Plan, which Congressman Kildee supported and was signed into law by President Biden.
The grants were awarded to the following airports:
- Bishop International Airport in Flint will receive $4,104,236.
- MBS International Airport in Freeland will receive $2,256,532.
- James Clements Municipal Airport in Bay City will receive $32,000.
- Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda will receive $32,000.
- Saginaw County HW Browne Airport in Saginaw will receive $32,000.
"This pandemic is not over, and our local airports still need help to maintain safe operations," Congressman Kildee said. "These grants are critical to support the economic recovery of our mid-Michigan airports, which have faced decreased passenger traffic and increased costs throughout the pandemic. I am pleased to announce that help is on the way for our local airports, and I am committed to bringing critical resources to Michigan."
In February 2021, Congressman Kildee announced $4.1 million in federal grants to mid-Michigan airports to cover costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning and paying down debt due to the coronavirus pandemic. In April 2020, Congressman Kildee announced $9.3 million in federal grants to mid-Michigan airports to help combat the economic impact of the pandemic.
