Congressman Kildee Applauds Passage of NO BAN Act

July 22, 2020

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing H.R. 2214, TheNational Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act. This legislation would immediately repeal each version of the Muslim Ban implemented by President Donald Trump and prohibit immigration restrictions based on religion.

President Trump has signed two Executive Orders to indefinitely suspend entry of all Syrian refugees and temporarily ban entry of all other refugees, as well as foreign nationals, from several Muslim-majority countries. Most recently, in January 2020, the President doubled down on these efforts and expanded the Muslim Ban to limit entry and immigration to the U.S. from six additional Muslim-majority countries.

"The President's discriminatory Muslim Ban makes America less safe. Counterterrorism experts have voiced concern that such bans are a powerful recruiting tool for terrorists trying to do us harm," Congressman Kildee said. "I am pleased the U.S. House of Representatives is acting to reverse the President's executive orders and support policies that respect our nation's commitment to human and civil rights."
