Congressman Kildee Unveils “A Better Deal” Agenda for Michigan Families

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today announced Democrats' new economic agenda for the American people – A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, Better Future. "A Better Deal" centers on three core objectives: creating millions more good-paying, full-time jobs and raising wages, lowering the cost of living for America's families, and building an economy that gives every American the tools they need to succeed in the twenty-first century.

"Michiganders want Congress to work on issues that affect their lives. In Michigan, there is a lot of anxiety about what the future of our country looks like. People are worried about stagnant wages, their children's future, and not being able to save enough money for retirement. For too long, the deck has been stacked in favor of the richest Americans. Corporations have been allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence our elections and protect their own special interests. My constituents know the system is rigged because they are working harder than ever, but their paychecks are less and their bills keep going up. Congress needs to focus on bold ideas to address this rigged system and to provide a better deal for middle-class families."

Congressman Kildee and Democrats' new economic agenda includes bold, effective ideas to support Michigan families, including:

• Creating good-paying, full-time jobs for 10 million more Americans in the next five years while focusing on pro-growth policies that raise all workers' wages;
• Lowering the cost of prescription drugs and ending outrageous drug price gouging;
• Cracking down on monopolies and big corporate mergers that hurt consumers, workers and competition.

A Better Deal recognizes that the best way to grow the economy is to strengthen the middle class and those working to get there, not to give handouts to corporations and the super-rich. While Republicans continue to promote trickle-down economics, Congressman Kildee and Democrats want to make bold changes to our political system that make sure government is on the side of working families.
