Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today on the passing of Congressman John Lewis:
John was the conscience of the Congress and my friend. When John rose to speak, others always listened. Sometimes speaking in a whisper, and other times in a roar, John’s voice always brought moral clarity and purpose.
Coronavirus Pandemic Has Put Social Security Benefits at Serious Risk
Generally, the Social Security Administration uses money from payroll taxes to pay out current retirees' benefits. However, with high unemployment and millions of Americans out of work, payroll taxes are no longer enough to continue paying out benefits in full, so the SSA has been forced to tap its two trust funds to cover the deficit.

Legislation Ensures Health Care for Michigan Military Firefighters, Supports Research into PFAS-Free Firefighting Gear
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, introduced new legislation today to ensure that firefighters exposed to toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals at military installations get the health care services they need through the U.S.

PFAS Clean-up Needed at Former Bases like Wurtsmith in Oscoda
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, today announced that he has helped to secure $200 million to clean up harmful per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at former military bases such as former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda.
