Grant Will Ensure Clean, Safe Drinking Water For Au Sable Residents

FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced that Au Sable Charter Township will receive a $4.7 millionfederal grant to improve water infrastructure, ensuring clean and safe drinking water for rural community residents in mid-Michigan.

The $4,767,000 federal grant, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be used to construct an extension of the Au Sable Charter Township sewer. Due to the rise in the level of Lake Huron, residential and commercial users have private septic systems that are failing. The project would add almost 3 miles of sewer collection and 3 lift stations, which would allow the township to accommodate more residents on the sewage system.

"When we invest in our critical water and wastewater infrastructure, we ensure families have access to clean, safe drinking water and protect our Great Lakes, rivers and streams from pollution," said Congressman Dan Kildee. "I am proud to announce this federal funding to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure in rural mid-Michigan."

In Congress, Congressman Kildee has supported efforts to ensure clean water, protect the Great Lakes and improve infrastructure in Michigan. Congressman Kildee in June introducedThe Moving Forward Act, which would invest in water and wastewater infrastructure projects to ensureall communities have clean drinking water and to help remove dangerous contaminants like PFAS from local water systems. Additionally, Congressman Kildeesecured tens of millions of dollars in federal grants for infrastructure investments in Michigan, including over $100 million to replace lead service lines in water systems.
