October 6, 2020

Hampton Charter Township, Clio to Receive New Fire, Rescue, and Public Works Trucks

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced $81,700 in federal grants to mid-Michigan to invest in new fire, rescue and public works trucks for local governments.

Three federal grants will be awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants program:

  • Hampton Charter Township received $50,000 for the purchase of a pumper fire truck. This fire truck will replace a 1997 fire truck which has reached the end of its useful service life due to age and increased maintenance and repair expenses. The fire truck will be outfitted with all necessary emergency lighting and gear.
  • Hampton Charter Township received $13,700 for the purchase of a fire/rescue medical truck. This truck will replace an existing vehicle that has high millage and started to require costly maintenance. The truck will be equipped with medical gear, emergency lights and siren, and a topper unit to keep equipment dry and secure.
  • The city of Clio received $18,000 for the purchase of a new pickup truck for its Department of Public Service to help with community infrastructure repairs and improvements.

"I am proud to announce these federal grants for Hampton Charter Township and Clio," said Congressman Kildee. "These investments will help support our local first responders and get our community new public safety equipment to help keep our neighborhoods safe."

Since coming to Congress, Kildee has supported efforts to invest in public safety. Last month, Kildee announced $198,195 in federal grants to help fund programs designed to reduce crime and improve criminal justice initiatives in the region. In July, Kildee introduced and voted for the Justice in Policing Act to provide a bold, comprehensive approach to holding police accountable, changing the culture of law enforcement and building trust between law enforcement and our communities.
