Statement from Congressman Dan Kildee on Air Force’s Failure to Address Toxic Chemicals in Oscoda Water

October 15, 2018

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) released the following statement after recent reporting that contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkylsubstances (PFAS)-tainted foam is growing around the surface and shores of water surrounding the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda:

"Exposure to dangerous PFAS chemicals is serious and the Air Force must move with more urgency to address contamination in Oscoda. I secured $14 million for the Air Force to clean up PFAS in communities like Oscoda and they have so far failed to begin any remediation measures even though it is undeniable that the Air Force is responsible for this contamination. The Air Force needs to step up to ensure the people of Oscoda have clean and safe water."
