Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was detained by police on a day of protests across Russia against Vladimir Putin:
“I am very troubled by reports that police have arrested opposition leader Alexei Navalny as thousands of Russians peacefully protested Vladimir Putin’s autocratic rule. Vladimir Putin wants to stifle democracy at home and abroad and his actions cannot be tolerated.
“President Trump must denounce Putin’s mockery of democracy and human rights. America stands with the Russian people in their struggle against Putin’s oppressive regime.”
