Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Budget Vote

February 9, 2018
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after the House budget vote:

“This bill falls short of good governance. I cannot in good conscience support unprecedented increases in Pentagon spending without enacting meaningful reforms to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely. A recent Pentagon audit found massive amounts of wasteful spending totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. I support pay for our service members and national defense, but I cannot support wasteful Pentagon spending on projects that the generals have not even asked for.

“Congress is clearly not operating the way it was intended to work. My constituents are fed up with government shutdowns and manufactured crises. Instead of lurching from crisis to crisis, Republicans and Democrats should sit down, negotiate and address the priorities of the American people, including action to fix our broken immigration system. I once again call on Speaker Ryan to allow for an immediate House vote on legislation to protect DREAMers.”
