Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on CBO Report for Graham-Cassidy Trumpcare Bill

September 25, 2017

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released a preliminary analysis detailing that the latest Republican Graham-Cassidy health care bill – Trumpcare – would mean millions of Americans would lose their health insurance:

"Republicans are attempting to rush through a bill that would mean millions of Americans lose insurance while other families face higher costs for worse care. The Graham-Cassidy Trumpcare bill allows insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and guts Medicaid, including the successful Healthy Michigan plan. Under this dangerous bill, insurance companies would be allowed to offer plans that cover fewer benefits, while charging sick and older Americans more for coverage. That is why doctors, hospitals, health organizations and patient-advocacy groups are against this reckless plan. There is not a single medical association that supports the Graham-Cassidy proposal.

"The American people overwhelmingly oppose Trumpcare because it is dangerous and would mean higher costs for worse care. Republicans should drop this bill and instead work with Democrats in a bipartisan fashion to improve America's health care system."
