Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Congressional Certification of Electoral College Votes

WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after Congress officially certified the results of the 2020 election:

"Democracy has prevailed. Despite the president inciting violence and angry pro-Trump mobs storming the U.S. Capitol, Congress has certified the results of the 2020 election.

"In America, voters choose the president—not Congress or the candidates themselves. It is shameful that many Republicans in Congress voted to overturn the electoral votes of several states.

"In 13 days, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the next President and Vice President of the United States. Their leadership is sorely needed so our country can begin to heal."
