Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Decision to Recognize Michigan Same-Sex Marriages

February 4, 2015

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after it was announced that the state of Michigan will recognize 300 same-sex marriages performed in 2014:

"I am glad to see Governor Snyder finally decided that these loving, committed Michigan couples deserve full recognition under the law. Recognition for these same-sex couples is long overdue. Every Michigander should be able to marry the person they love, and I am confident that the U.S. Supreme Court will strike down discriminatory same-sex marriage bans like Michigan's in the coming months."

Congressman Kildee has previously called on Gov. Snyder to recognize same-sex marriages performed in Michigan on March 22, 2014. His previous statement can be viewed here.
