Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on the Department of Transportation’s Grant to the Flint Mass Transportation Authority

September 8, 2016
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) released the following statement after the Department of Transportation awarded $12.8 million to the Flint Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) for new compressed natural gas buses. Congressman Kildee was as strong advocate for the grant and worked with Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx to advocate for Flint as a beneficiary. “This grant is credited to the forward thinking investments the Flint MTA has made over the last decade. Their leadership put them in position to secure more funding for local residents. The partnership between the Flint MTA and the Department of Transportation increases reliability and provides more efficient transportation for the residents of Flint while putting less pollution in the air. Throughout the water crisis, the Flint MTA has stepped up, delivering water and transporting people to their medical appointments and the grocery store. This grant is an important investment in improving Genesee County’s transportation infrastructure, and I thank President Obama and Secretary Foxx on their continued commitment to the city of Flint.”
