Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on DeVos Proposal to Arm Teachers With Federal Taxpayer Dollars

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after it was reported that the Trump Administration is considering using taxpayer dollars to purchase guns for teachers:

“It’s hard to tell if Betsy DeVos is leading the Department of Education or the National Rifle Association. Betsy DeVos’ idea to divert education funds to arm teachers is appalling and dangerous. Michigan children are falling behind the rest of the nation and Republicans refuse to adequately fund education, yet suddenly the Trump Administration can find millions of dollars to appease the NRA and put guns in schools. We should spend taxpayer dollars on smaller class sizes and buying textbooks, not putting guns in schools.”
