Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Flint Lead Registry Announcement

August 1, 2017
Press Release
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after it was announced that Michigan State University will be awarded over $14 million to establish a lead registry in the wake of the Flint water crisis:

“I welcome today’s announcement that Michigan State University will receive federal funds to establish a lead registry for Flint families. A lead registry is a critical step to ensuring Flint residents exposed to lead during the crisis get the health care and other resources needed to mitigate the effects of lead exposure. I commend Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha and her colleagues for their work and continued research through Michigan State University and the Hurley Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative in Flint. Their work will help Flint families and support our community’s long-term recovery. After fighting so hard for these resources in Congress, I am pleased to see this lead registry become a reality.”

In December 2016, Congress passed $170 million in federal aid, championed by Congressman Kildee, directed at helping Flint recover from the city’s ongoing water crisis, including the resources for today’s announced lead registry. President Obama signed the Flint aid package into law on December 16, 2016.
