Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Flint receiving a SAFER Grant for Public Safety
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded Flint a $3.7 million Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant. Congressman Kildee was a strong advocate for the grant and wrote to U.S. Fire Administrator Ernest Mitchell, Jr. to advocate Flint as a beneficiary. “I am pleased by the news that the city of Flint will receive SAFER grant funds to increase public safety. These resources will allow the city to hire back firefighters that were laid off and ensure that the city’s emergency services are improved. Fire protection services are crucial to ensuring Flint’s recovery, and I applaud the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts in supporting my hometown.”
