Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Introduction of Trade Promotion Authority Legislation

April 16, 2015

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation was introduced in Congress:

"My home state of Michigan knows all too well the negative consequences of bad trade deals like NAFTA. We have heard the same false assurances and promises before. This fast track legislation fails in three very important ways: it was negotiated entirely in secret and lacks transparency, it fails to include strong and enforceable currency provisions, and it asks Congress to rubber stamp an unfair deal that would lower wages for workers and ship American jobs overseas."
