Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s Efforts to Ban Straight-Ticket Voting

September 2, 2016
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette filed an emergency application for a stay with the U.S. Supreme Court to stop straight-ticket voting from being allowed in Michigan: “It is time for Attorney General Bill Schuette and Michigan Republicans to give up their desire to make it harder for all Michiganders to vote. Citizens of Michigan take the right to vote seriously and adding roadblocks to exercising that right is shameful. More shameful is Attorney General Bill Schuette’s efforts to discriminate against minorities and his continued wasting of Michigan tax payer dollars on losing cases. Voting is a sacred right for every American, and any attempt to restrict any community from voting is an attack on our entire democracy.”
