Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on the Passage of the NDAA

December 12, 2019

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and co-chair of the bipartisan PFAS Task Force, released the following statement regarding the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act:

"As the head of the bipartisan PFAS Task Force, I want to thank Chairman Smith for including many important provisions that I championed to protect our service members and their families from PFAS chemical contamination and lead exposure."

"I am disappointed that additional PFAS provisions, including those establishing a drinking water standard for PFAS and requiring corporate polluters to clean up contamination, were ultimately blocked by Senate Republicans. For this reason, I opposed the final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. Regardless, I will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats on the bipartisan PFAS Task Force to ensure that all Americans are protected from PFAS chemicals. It is long past time that we get serious about cleaning up these chemicals in our communities to protect service members and communities like Oscoda."
