Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on the Passing of Muhammad Ali

June 4, 2016
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today on the passing of Muhammad Ali:

“Muhammad Ali was a fighter – certainly in the boxing ring as a three-time world heavyweight champion, but also a fighter for justice, for civil rights and for peace. Known to many simply as ‘The Greatest’, he captivated the world with his sharp tongue and rapid rhythms. In private, he was also a fighter, battling a decades-long fight with Parkinson’s. Yet even as this disease robbed him of his speech and mobility, Muhammad stayed active as a humanitarian and philanthropist. Muhammad was also a proud Muslim-American who embraced Islam and its teachings of peace, speaking out against religious violence and intolerance. “Throughout his life, Muhammad made great contributions to society. Today America mourns his loss and remembers his impact on making the world a better place for all of us.”
