Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Potential Government Shutdown

December 20, 2018

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) released the following statement after President Donald Trump said he will not sign the current Senate-passed budget bill that funds the government:

"Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House. If the government shuts down, make no mistake—this will be the Trump shutdown. This is no way to run the corner grocery store, let alone the government of the United States.

"President Trump knows he does not have the votes to fund his border wall. Democrats support border security that makes sense, not an expensive and ineffective wall on the southern border. The American people want the President and Congress to compromise and get things done, not throw a temper tantrum when we do not get what we want."
