Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on President Trump’s New NAFTA
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after President Trump signed the United States Mexico Canada Agreement:
“Michigan families have been hurt by unfair trade deals in the past, so it’s important we get any new agreement right. Simply renaming NAFTA, however, will not protect good paying jobs and grow our economy.
“Any new trade deal must put the middle class and working people first. As Congress receives the details and specific language for this new agreement, I need to see stronger enforcement mechanisms of higher labor and environmental standards, which will help Americans compete in a global economy. In the coming weeks, I’ll be watching to see if Mexico reforms its labor laws to ensure workers are paid for an honest day’s work.”
