Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Release of Asian Carp Study

August 8, 2017

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after the Trump Administration released the long-delayed Brandon Road study detailing ways to prevent Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes:

"I welcome the release of this report that was long delayed by the Trump Administration. Asian carp pose a real and immediate threat to our Great Lakes and they must be taken seriously. Billions of dollars in economic activity depend on protecting the Great Lakes from invasive species like Asian carp.

"As a nation, we must move toward a long-term solution to stop invasive species like Asian carp. Gathering final input from experts during the upcoming public comment period is critical, and then we must immediately act on the most effective strategy that ensures Asian Carp are kept out of the Great Lakes.

"Our jobs, our economy and our livelihood as Michiganders depends on the viability of the Great Lakes, and the Army Corps should move forward as quickly as possible to stop the threat of Asian carp."
