Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Release of Toxic Chemical Pollution Study

June 20, 2018
Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration released a federal study on per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFAS). The Trump Administration, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, had previously blocked publication of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry’s study, fearing a “public relations nightmare.” Congressman Kildee has repeatedly called for the release of this federal study:

“After blocking its release for months, I am glad the Trump Administration is finally releasing this study. The public has a right to have the most up-to-date information on toxic chemicals in their drinking water. This federal study is deeply concerning because it demonstrates that PFAS chemicals are more dangerous to human health than the EPA has previously acknowledged. The Trump Administration must address PFAS contamination with more urgency. We must ensure that families and veterans exposed to these dangerous chemicals receive the health care and clean-up resources they need.”
