Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on the Removal of Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism List

December 14, 2020

FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after it was announced Sudan has been removed from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list:

"The lifting of Sudan's state sponsor of terrorism designation is an important step forward. The Sudanese people have bravely stood up to demand the right to democratically choose their own future after decades of oppression under a previous regime that promoted terrorism and use of military force over diplomacy and global engagement. Now a new civilian-led government has begun to positively reengage with the United States and the world. While significant challenges remain for the Sudanese transitional government to build a strong and stable democracy, today's announcement represents progress.I look forward to continuing to work with the Sudanese people and their leaders to promote democracy and diplomacy."
