Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Republicans Abandoning Plan to Gut Congressional Ethics Office

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after House Republicans reversed course on their plans to gut the independent Office of Congressional Ethics:

“While House Republicans, after a chorus of public outrage, may be abandoning their plan to dismantle Congress’ independent ethics panel, the American people must remain vigilant and speak out against future attempts to undermine transparency and erode public trust. Simply put, Congress should be held to the highest ethical standards.

“Instead of protecting themselves and special interests, House Republicans should join Democrats in focusing on the priorities of the American people, including growing our economy, fixing our broken roads and bridges, and ensuring affordable health care for all.”
