Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Trade Panel Ruling in Favor of U.S. Dairy Farmers

January 4, 2022

FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after a dispute panel created under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) ruled in favor of the U.S., finding that Canada has breached its commitments in the agreement, hurting America's dairy farmers:

"Enforcing our existing trade agreements is one of my top priorities in Congress, including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement which I voted for to replace the disastrous and unfair NAFTA trade deal. Michigan workers and dairy farmers must be able to compete on a level playing field. Today's decision will protect Michigan jobs and support our state's dairy farmers that have been struggling to compete against unfair trade practices. I applaud Ambassador Tai and the Biden administration for their actions to protect Michigan workers."
