March 15, 2022
FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Shalanda D. Young, the former Clerk and Staff Director of the House Appropriations Committee and current Acting Director of the Office and Management and Budget, to lead the OMB:
"Having worked closely with Shalanda Young when she worked on the House Appropriations Committee, I am pleased to see her historic confirmation as Director of the Office of Management and Budget. As the first African American woman to serve in this role, she is an important leader in breaking barriers and should be an inspiration to all. Her strong support from both Democrats and Republicans shows that she is supremely qualified and will continue to be an excellent leader in the Biden administration.
"I look forward to continuing to work with Director Young in her role as OMB Director to continue our economic recovery, combat inflation, fix our supply chains and lower costs for Michigan families."
