May 18, 2021

WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today in advance of President Joe Biden’s visit today to Michigan to promote the American Jobs Plan and the expansion of electric vehicles:

"It is great to have President Biden Back in Michigan to discuss the importance of the American auto industry and electric vehicles. Investing in electric vehicles is a win-win, helping to create good-paying Michigan jobs and combat the climate crisis. With our competitors like China investing heavily in electric vehicles and advanced battery technology, we must make similar investments to remain competitive in a global economy.

"In Congress, I am working with President Biden and Senator Stabenow to invest in the electrification of the auto sector, so we can create good-paying manufacturing jobs in our state. I was proud to work with the President to include this important effort in the American Jobs Plan. With the American Jobs Plan, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to investment in America's infrastructure. By fixing our roads and bridges, as well as investing in electric vehicles, broadband and clean water, we can invest in our future and create good-paying jobs."

Congressman Kildee is a leader in Congress on the expansion of electric vehicles. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, he haspreviously introduced legislationto expand the electric vehicle tax credit to make electric vehicles more affordable for consumers and invest in American manufacturing.
